14-02-2003 There is need for fundamental progress in Web Design and Builders
Internet mean dynamic access. For example through a site like yahoo you can get access to files around the world. But, you get "File not found" if and if only author change his directory structure in his web. I have wrote 27-11-2002 Web Server Design, File Database . I thought it may help to make more dynamic structure. But, problem of missing a dynamic structure is much deeper. Today, we use Intel P4 processing power as CPU and database type administrated Windows XP as Operative System, why should we still talk about old HTML when we talk web. Why today's homage builders must miss database facilities. Today many HTML builders are far from a DOS time simple word processor. Something is wrong and that is progress in web. Web is too long back.

Recently, I have started again to organize seyed.com. In seyed.com I have about 2 or 300 files and 1000 links. It is not much and there sites with allot more files and links. I have tried to make a simple database with access. A Link and category database with 2 table and one relation. A Table for links, a table for categories and relation table between these 2. I thought by query and MS Access DAP (Data Access Page) I can make my categories. Than again by manual menu system in my page present my categories.

I have forgotten how to work with databases but still making the Database, Tables and Queries has gone well, thanks MS Access for being user friendly in case of databases. But, when I have got to use my links Access answer was No. Access help only explained that case is not so simple, it is definitely not a end user job. I don't how come all else so difficult database problems is so simple in access but good old links are not a simple case. Even dynamic links (UNC) may not work if so or if so. What you make Offline may as well not work in Server. Dose these mean that Access people was unable to make a simple working solution, No. They were well able but, they did not wanted to, why, I don't know. After my opinion it is well easy for Access programmers to make Access solve UNC problem automatic. It is as well easy for them to make Access find out that The Database is running in a Server or it is Offline at web designer PC and work automatically as it must in both cases.

Maybe, missing these necessary needs is because Microsoft does not see any need or market for these efforts. How ever internet ability in new MS Office products like, Word ability to write HTML, Access ability to make DAP or being beside ability to introduce web pages in all languages are introduced as strong sides of new MS Office products. Finally Web pages are not Access job but FrontPage. It is in fact FrontPage job to give database facility in web design.

I remember many years ago, once one of my friends asked for my advise before he make a program in Visual Basic. I told him he need a database for his program and for that before Visual Basic he must build his database in Access. He said, I do not need Access, VB has database facility in its self. I think it was VB version 2 and it was at least 5 or more years ago. I wonder why still FrontPage must be so back of Visual Basic and miss database facility!

Problem is neither Access nor FrontPage problem. Problem is internet problem. Internet live in fact in old DOS Editor time while others are in XP, P4 and Word 2002 time. Why Software companies has left internet users alone with DOS Editor level Web builders? Is Web technology really so behind as HTML is? No, those whom can effort expensive database programs, programmers, web designers and webmasters are beside up-to-date facilities.

There was both DOS Editor and WordPerfect in 8086 time. What which made market for Personal Computers was not DOS Editors but WordPerfect. Today market is frozen, because people are left alone with DOS Editors. I, with 5 years computer programming education am not able to use this "editor", what do you expect of normal internet users? why they must waist their money with Computer and Internet for get headache of HTML? Where there are people there is money. Offer something valuable, to make them buy. If we had stood on UNIX VI Editor, no one will have get near a Computer today.

In this text, I have mentioned many products and companies name. My goal is not criticizing but shocking the marked from top to right direction. I am using MS office and over told programs for my daily work. I am fully satisfied with what these programs offer. Point is, I wonder why progress in internet must be so behind. A simple 3 table database for category and links solve problem of 90% people, why HTML editors miss this facility? Why HTML editors are not beside a database facility for files and bookmarks as database Records, as easy records as using bookmarks? Internet Pages, Bookmarks and links are database data, living this problem as it is in one side is expensive in general and from another side is a stop stone in Computer market. I hope my words in this case be useful.

What do I expect from a low cost web builder? Look at internet and web sites as roads and cars. Rolls-Royce can drive fast in roads up to speed limit, every other car can do it too. In a low cost Page builder, I want every facility that able big companies make their good sites like BBC.com, msn.com cnn.com, yahoo.com or etc.

Those whom buy Rolls-Royce does not "copy" but, which car type build, sale and make more money? Which car has got cars so popular and money maker? Which car has progressed the whole international business market in every case? With only Rolls-Royce and without other cars, world could now be as behind as centuries ago, but low cost cars have changed the world to what we see today. Most of cars progress are found by low cost car companies too.

Today both kings, wealthy people, normal low cost buyer people and copy users all use XP and latest Word as their word-processing product but one has cleaver advisor, lawyer and educated secretaries and another only him or her self. In other word car of XP and word had their good progress and of course one use Rolls-Royce another a normal one. None of them is unhappy with what they have got of technology nor Microsoft is unhappy with its income of these products. Web builders are long behind this progress, One drive a car and other does not know what is a car, in a time which you see movie through internet.

Finally, back to my own problem, if any can help me with my "link database", I have made tstdb.zip which is a very small example of my web database in Access DAP . Please take a look, I will be very grateful. I get as well very grateful if any know any affordable Rolls-Royce that can solve my problem.
